Japanese POW WWII Era Painted Wood Bird Pin ~ Blue Jay
Very nicely made blue jay pin (Stellar's?), and the type of painted wood bird produced by Japanese internment camp prisoners in the 1940's (the best-known is Takahashi). While Takahashi's work is known for its extraordinary detail, this little guy is no slouch. 3" across; bird has twist-wire legs on a branch. Elzac 1940s Carved Wood Ethnic Woman Face Pin ~ Metal Neck Rings
1940s unsigned Elzac carved wood pin features a tribal woman's head in profile with wrapped brass wire representing neck rings. Within a few African and Asian cultures, women wear neck rings to create the illusion of a long neck, or to signify marital status. 2 1/4" height with 2-part embedded metal pin with c-clasp. Japanese POW WWII Era Painted Wood Bird Pin ~ Robin
This is quite lovely -- a painted wood robin redbreast bird pin with wings outspread in flight. From the 1940's, this is the work of one of the Japanese internment camp prisoners (the most famous being Takahashi). A single twisted wire claw is set into the base, and a metal pinback has prongs embedded into the back of the wood. Small maker's mark on reverse. Excellent condition. - $25
Elzac Carved Wood Tribal Ethnic Face w/ Lip Disc
Fabulous 1940s carved wood pin appears to be unmarked Elzac, a California Pottery company that created ethnic face jewelry using wood, ceramic and plastics. This huge brooch measures nearly 4 1/2" and depicts a tribal Brazilian or African profile with painted features including lower lip disc. Actual braided rope is woven around the hair and neck. There may have been an ear ornament at one time as there is a notch in the lobe. Two-part metal pin is embedded into the back, with locking mechanism. Excellent condition. - $80

Miriam Haskell or Czech Early Dangle Wood Bead Pin
Fun 1940's dangly wood bead pin may be Miriam Haskell, although I am not 100% certain as some of these beaded wood pieces also came out of Czechoslovakia. 4 1/4" total height, with clusters of small and large wooden beads affixed to metal chains; each bead is topped with a colorful tiny bead (red, yellow, blue, green). Takahashi Painted Hummingbird Pin
Unsigned Takahashi painted wood bird pin features a hummingbird with striking scarlet head, yellow and green body. This may be an Anna hummingbird, given the red crown. These wood bird pins were originally made by inmates of American/Japanese internment camps during World War II, with the Takahashi birds the best known and ultimately produced for upscale stores. This little bird is beautifully detailed. Measures 2 1/2" across and has the authentic push-pins attaching the metal pin-back. Excellent condition. - $180
